Prelude to A Good Cry

Choked up and barely breathing;

Yes, this is me you're seeing.

The usual smile,

the perpetual laughter,

is gone

and will be gone

until time

permits me

to be happy again.

Break

broke

breaking

broken.

No space

nor time

for healing.

This is the part

where I let

the tears

fall down.

Yes, I am unhappy and I have life and the world to thank for that.

when you have

nothing good to say,

'tis wise

to just

shut up.

The power

of your words

can hurt

a person who

only meant

kindness.

Reflect

and rationalize

the meaning

of statements

uttered in

the most

ungodly

ways.

The raindrops

have always reminded me

of those days

that were less forlorn.

Ironic,

but

when the weather

used to be gloomy,

it was when I felt

most alive.

Shelter me

under the umbrella

that you once held up

as we crossed the street.

It amazes me what depth, breadth and substance that unpremeditated situations can bring to the average writer's creative juices. This is not my best, but I'm proud to have condensed it with such soul and subtlety.
