About Me

- Frances Ogilvie
- From the small town I call home, Philippines
- Hello, I'm Chai and you've never probably heard of me until now. I may be familiar to you because I've met you once when our souls crossed paths. In my past life, I was probably a princess living in Old England, or a World War II chronicler assigned to document the devastation in what is now called Turkey. I may have been a street urchin or a painter or an old Hollywood actress once. But the life I've chosen to hold on to is the life I'm living in right now and I'm glad I can share it with you.:)

Now that's over, allow me to begin my TOP TEN week with this entry.
The inspiration came from an afternoon of un-deliberate viewing of The Buzz today. They were like, on their 11th year anniversary or something and they guested Kim Chiu as part of their "11 years of showbiz expose thingy."
Watching her "act" in soap opearas is one bad thing, but listening to her interviews is just terminal! I swear, I can give a more acceptable and totally un-wholesome response compared to the "bubbly, pa-sweet" image this girl tries to get across, but fails, miserably. And if you know me that well, she's one Pinoy celebrity that I wish didn't get discovered in the first place. And she, my friends, gets the top spot. But before we get to the reasons as to why, here's a rundown from number ten.
10. TAYLOR MOMSEN

Okay, don't get me wrong or anything. I LOVE everything about Hollywood, and everything Gossip Girl, but unfortunately, this girl is someone who ruins the show altogether. And I just don't hate her character in the series and in the literature itself, I also hate her, or rather, hate how she wants other people to see her. I don't get what image she's trying to project. Yeah, sure, you're the lead singer of this "bad a**" band (rolls eyes), but how much should life imitate art? SERIOUSLY? She better put her act together, otherwise, her career would end as quickly as Lohan's. And I've heard she's really rude and mean to fans. Reality check sweetheart, the fans are the ones who make you. Hate on them and they'll hate back on you. Ergo, a career that would end in *poof*. Sad but true.
9. VANESSA HUDGENS

As mentioned, I usually don't hate on anything Hollywood, but one of the reasons that make me want to make an exception is VHudge. Like anyone who has a dire appreciation for Disney and adorable musicals, I am a huge fan of High School Musical 1,2 and 3 because of the influence of younger sibling life. However, hearing this girl "belt out" her annoying falser than falsetto notes is just a huge, sick and plain joke the producers decided to play on us. The songs, and the meaning behind them, are really really heartfelt, and the lyricism and rhythm is beyond exception, but do they really need to get this girl to sing them? And her personality! UGH! She's someone we Filipinos love to refer as "pa-cute." Just look at her red carpet photos for reference and you'll see what I mean. It's always the same "Hey, look at me, I'm pretty fake!" smile.
8. MILEY CYRUS

Like I really need to explain WHY?? My friend (and fellow RIVAL) Dianne would agree with me on this one. But in hindsight, here's the reason why: QUESTIONABLE TALENT+RACY CLOTHES+ANNOYING FACE=FAIL. Do the math.:)
7. MARIAN RIVERA

There are a bunch of local actresses I really hate, and she's one of them. Other than calling herself "Psychology", I personally believe that she is a terrible endorser. I watch her commercials and not once have I ever been convinced or drawn to purchase her products, because the way she delivers her lines are just plain blah. I could honestly be the spokesperson for something totally unsellable, like, say, used bottle corks, and more people would buy it. And I have no idea what people are going on about her. Help me understand please.
6. GARY VALENCIANO

I know, I know. The man is extremely talented, and without a doubt, he has contributed a great deal to Philippine entertainment and music industry. However, I have to agree with one of my best friends, Adrienne. She was the one who pointed out to me Mr. Pure Energy's tendency to perform songs/dance numbers that, let's say, for the purpose of argument, no longer suit his supposed target audience. Like for instance, in ASAP XV today, I saw him performing a Black Eyed Peas number complete with this uh, "futuristic" costume. I reacted by doing a mental face palm and saying, "So not right for the part." Yes, he can still pull it off, and yes, he does justice to the performance. But the man is what, a little over 40 years old? I really don't wish that his career would end per se, I just prefer seeing him doing ballads and all that. Sans the dancing. Besides, he doesn't need to prove himself anymore. He's had more than 25 years to do that already. It's all about sticking to what you know.
5. CHRIS BROWN

It has nothing to do with talent. Nor his color. It has something to do with the fact that he abused and physically assaulted a woman in Rihanna. I love his songs, and his energy on stage. And I honestly believe that he is super talented. But hitting a girl? Come on dude. How low can you get? Just because everyone seems to have done it at least once in their lives, does not totally make it okay. The wounds may have healed in time, but the trauma and inner pain he has caused Riri would forever leave a stinging mark upon her very existence for as long as she lives. I hope all men would learn from this. And never consider hurting a woman--physically or emotionally--ever again.
4. NAOMI CAMPBELL

One word: RETIREMENT age. The fashion industry isn't kind to more mature runway stunners. And what was up with all those community service? Babe's life just got off the radar. Love her, but please, she has to live a quieter life. Or engage in another career, ala-Tyra Banks, going into hosting?
3. KATRINA HALILI
For one thing, she wasn't able to handle herself well during the sex scandal with Hayden Kho sometime last year. If you ask me, she went a little too overboard with the reaction, even going through lengths such as filing a case at the supreme court or something, when she could've just SHUT UP and let the experience be a learning for her to be able to grow more as a person and as an artist. After all, she has chosen to do that, albeit sans the knowledge of the presence of the video camera, and the best thing she could've done was to own up to her actions, apologize to everyone who might have been offended by her ignorant act, and dealt with Hayden Kho, the man in question, in private. There was really no need for her to blatantly make the whole world feel like she was a victim. Look at Maricar Reyes and the classy way she has dealt with this storm. She has proven that by keeping quiet, and letting your PR people do damage control, you can still have a wonderful and blossoming career.
2. MANNY PACQUIAO

A boxing icon and a world renowned personality, yes. But did he really have to get into politics as well? Enough said.
1. KIM CHIU

I'm sure I've made a good start on my reasons for disliking her and wanting to see her out of media attention forever. Other than looking so flaky, the girl cannot pull off any other emotion other than the usual weepy, rebellious or pained character we so often see on the airwaves ever since she was offered a career after PBB. If you ask me, she shouldn't have started showbiz in the first place. Everyone's a critic. And besides, there is nothing spectacular about her face or her personality! When I hear people go say, "Aww, she's so pretty...", I instantly make a face. I have lots of friends with Chinese blood in them, and trust me, they are a lot prettier and more talented than this girl. Besides, I feel sorry for her. I don't think she had a real teenage life because she readily accepted her launch into this circus we all know as Philippine showbiz and wasn't able to live a private life after; like going to a school to learn and study a promising course in college. Because the truth is, when her fanbase gets older, they are going to eventually quit admiring her and move on with their lives. And her career, well, *kaput*. If you happen to be a fan, and you didn't pay attention to my disclaimer earlier on, and reading this right now, I'm sorry for hurting your feelings, but this is how I see it. She is, after all, a public figure subject to criticism and ridicule, so I hope you understand and be able to suck it like a real pro!:)
Until next post!:)

Deyyym girl, this is sizzling! Hahaha, could not agree more! Taylor Momsen is such a so-so compared to her fellow actors in Gossip Girl and Gary V.? Let's say he gives it a rest, I keep on saying that he should retire anytime soon. Sorry but he doesn't belong to the younger generation so there's no way he looks good singing or dancing to today's tunes. And Marian Rivera! Shucks, why does she have to be a commercial model, she can't even say her lines straight, gaaaahh!
Hi Ate! Thank you for appreciating this post.:D Yeah, same sentiments as you.:) There are a lot of celebrities in the local scene who doesn't even deserve half of the credit they are getting. And I am not saying this coz I am bitter. I say this from the perspective of an unbiased viewer and a Communications degree holder.:D
